======================================================================== RELEASE NOTES FOR THE MULTIPLE DRIVE SUPPORT (MDS) PLUG-IN FOR THE S60 3RD EDITION SDK FOR SYMBIAN OS, FEATURE PACK 2 04.06.2008 ======================================================================== Introduction: ============= This plug-in installs into the S60 3rd Edition SDK for Symbian OS, Feature Pack 2 and provides multiple drive support (MDS) features to the SDK. The multiple drive support provided by the plug-in consists of: - MDS-related API changes for the Common File Dialogs API and Platform Environment API. - Drive configuration scripts that are found in \epoc32\mds\. - An MDS example application that is found in \S60Ex\Exa_CommonDialogs\. - Documentation that is found in \S60Doc\mds\. Prerequisites: ============== The S60 3rd Edition SDK for Symbian OS, Feature Pack 2 must be installed prior to installation of the plug-in. The system requirements are the same as those for the SDK, with an additional requirement for 15 GB of free disk space for the plug-in. Installation: ============= To install the plug-in: 1. Verify that the SDK emulator and SDK documentation browser are not running. 2. Extract the contents of S60_3rd_FP2_SDK_MDS_plug_in_v_1_0_en.zip to the SDK's installation directory. Before extracting the ZIP file, ensure that the option "Use folder names" has been selected. Notes: ====== New applications that have MDS will be compatible with future S60 devices and SDKs. Note that applications that have MDS are not backward compatible with S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 or earlier. Applications that use current S60 SDK APIs for file and drive handling will continue to work with future S60 devices and SDKs. However, such applications may have some functional limitations, such as not providing access to all user-visible drives available in a device. This plug-in cannot be uninstalled. The MDS plug-in has not been tested with other SDK plug-ins. Therefore, it is recommended that only this plug-in be used with the SDK: No other SDK plug-ins should be installed. Do not edit the drive configurations in the epoc.ini or epoc_xxx.ini files while a drive configuration script is in use. Note that drive configurations can also be modified from the Multimedia Card (MMC) sub-tab of the Events tab in the emulator's Utilities option. Using this feature to set the memory card to a folder changes drive attributes, and the drive may not be recognized correctly. Copyright (c) 2008 Nokia Corporation. All rights reserved.
